Model Pemberdayaan UMKM Berbasis Prinsip Syariah melalui Pendidikan Agama Islam di Pesantren

This study examines a sharia-based micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) empowerment model developed through Islamic religious education in pesantren. MSMEs play a crucial role in strengthening local economies and promoting inclusive growth in Indonesia, yet their sustainability often depends on ethical foundations and community-based support. Pesantren, as Islamic educational institutions, possess strong potential to integrate religious values with economic empowerment practices. Using a mixed-methods approach, this study combines quantitative analysis of 150 student-managed MSMEs in pesantren in East Java with qualitative insights from in-depth interviews and field observations. Quantitative data were analyzed using multiple linear regression, while qualitative data were examined through thematic analysis. The findings indicate that Islamic religious education significantly influences sharia-compliant MSME performance, particularly through enhanced understanding of sharia principles, managerial skills, and practical entrepreneurial experience. Knowledge of sharia principles emerges as the strongest predictor of MSME performance, highlighting the central role of value internalization in business practices. Qualitative results further demonstrate that pesantren-based education fosters ethical conduct, transparency, and social responsibility in entrepreneurial activities. This study contributes by offering an empirically grounded conceptual model of sharia-based MSME empowerment rooted in pesantren education. Practically, the model provides guidance for pesantren managers and policymakers in designing sustainable, value-driven economic empowerment programs.
